Hobsons Bay City Council has elected Cr Antoinette (Tony) Briffa as Mayor and re-elected Cr Diana Grima as Deputy Mayor.

Cr Briffa was elected by her fellow councillors on Friday night to serve her second term as Mayor, having previously served in 2011/12. She was Deputy Mayor in 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2017/18. The Cherry Lake Ward councillor is serving her fourth term on Council after first being elected in 2008.

Cr Briffa's interests include representing the community to ensure the council provides quality services and infrastructure, maintaining affordable rates and responsible budgets, protecting our environment, advocating for residents, community groups and businesses, and ensuring developments are respectful of the local community.

Cr Briffa was recently recognised with an award from the Municipal Association of Victoria for her long-term service on Hobsons Bay City Council.

Cr Grima was re-elected as Deputy Mayor after serving in the role over the past year. The Wetlands Ward councillor is serving her first term on Council.

Cr Briffa said she was honoured to be elected Mayor for a second time and was excited about the year ahead.

"We serve an amazing community. It's a community that I'm really proud to have been born in, raised in, went to local schools in, have served on the local council since 2008, and worked with many community groups," Cr Briffa said.

"I look forward to working with Deputy Mayor Grima and my other fellow councillors, and our CEO and council administration, to deliver programs and initiatives that put Hobsons Bay first.

"I will also seek to deliver a mayoral program that focuses on some of the community issues that I'm passionate about."

Cr Grima said she was looking forward to working with the new Mayor.

"I'm honoured that my fellow councillors have entrusted me with another term as Deputy Mayor," Cr Grima said.

"I take this role very seriously and look forward to working with Mayor Briffa and our other councillors as we strive to make Hobsons Bay an even better community to live, work, and play."
