Cr Robyn Gulline: We can't afford to stop progress

Horsham is the smallest of the 10 Victorian regional cities.

We compete with the larger cities for new residents to fill our many job vacancies and funding to upgrade our facilities and infrastructure now and into the future.

As a regional city, Horsham plays a vital role in supporting and providing services for the wider region.

The Community Panel was very clear in its expectation of Council in delivering for our community.

"In 2041, Horsham region is a vibrant, liveable hub that thrives on strong economic growth and social connectedness. Empowering people to live, work and access opportunities for recreation and culture, now and into the future."

The 2021-2024 Council Plan demonstrates how Council will deliver on the Community Panel's themes of community, accessibility, liveability, sustainability and leadership.

The City Oval/Sawyer Park redevelopment plans have been created by the community for the community. Council is now seeking funding through state and federal grants to deliver on Stage 1 of this project and minimise the ratepayer commitment.

Developments in Stage 1 will include community facilities (including AFL standard change rooms), netball facilities (including two netball courts, lighting, change rooms and spectator areas) and event activation such as a stage, supporting infrastructure, roadworks and landscaping.

Upgrading these aging facilities to be modern, compliant and accessible will meet the long term needs of our residents and address the key liveability criteria from the panel.

The visionaries of the past have delivered many wonderful facilities for our municipality but many are tired and no longer meet the requirements and community expectations in 2022.

Your councillors are committed to being the new visionaries and delivering quality services, facilities and infrastructure that our community wants and deserves.
