Crash following police pursuit in Broadway

Two men are in custody following a brief pursuit with police in Glebe tonight. , NSW Police say

About 11.45pm (Monday 20 August 2018) officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command were patrolling Parramatta Road, Glebe, when a Holden Commodore came under notice.

Officers activated warning devices and attempted to pull the vehicle over, however, it accelerated and a pursuit commenced.

Police followed the vehicle for a short time along Parramatta Road where it appears the engine has failed causing a plume of smoke.

The vehicle then drove up onto the footpath on Broadway where it crashed into three shop fronts causing structural damage.

Officers quickly arrested the driver and his male passenger. Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

A crime scene has been established and further inspection of the vehicle revealed an amount of property suspected of being stolen.

Inquiries are continuing.
