Crash in Katherine

Emergency services closed the Katherine Bridge last night following a serious crash.

Shortly before 7pm, a car carrying two adults and a small child collided with a minibus taxi that had five occupants on board.

The people involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and those requiring further medical treatment were conveyed to Katherine Hospital.

Superintendent Kirk Pennuto said, "The Katherine Bridge was closed overnight with traffic diverted across the Lower Level Crossing, Unfortunately with rising water levels last night the Low Level had to close at 6am today, meaning there was no traffic movement across the river at all for a short period".

"The crash scene was cleared at about 7am and so traffic is now flowing again. We'd like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation".

Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
