Creating Smoother Journeys Along Melton Highway

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is making travel across Melbourne's growing west easier as two major projects on the Melton Highway get underway.

To make trips smoother and reduce delays for the 23,000 vehicles that travel along the Melton Highway each day, crews will begin works on the Melton Highway Infill Duplication Project in the coming weeks.

As part of the upgrade, additional lanes and a new centre median will be built between Crown Drive and The Regency which will improve traffic flow and cater to the rapidly growing community.

New safety barriers, kerbs, drainage and street lighting will also be installed, and the existing shared use path on the south side of Melton Highway will be extended and connected.

Crews are also completing works on this important road, by upgrading and aligning the intersection of the Melton Highway and Leakes Road in Plumpton.

Turning lanes will be added to the intersection to improve traffic flow as part of the upgrade, and new traffic lights and pedestrian facilities will be installed to enable safer crossings.

Crews will install new street lighting to improve visibility at night, and the road will be resurfaced with new kerbing and improved drainage.

Drivers can expect reduced speed limits and changed conditions while travelling through these construction works and are encouraged to obey traffic controllers and any speed signage, and drive to conditions to keep everyone safe.

Works to upgrade the intersection of the Melton Highway and Leakes Road are now underway and are anticipated for completion in late-2025.

The Melton Highway Infill Duplication project will begin in the coming weeks and is expected to be complete by the mid-2026.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne

"By upgrading the Melton Highway, we're ensuring safer journeys for the residents already using it every day - as well as the hundreds of thousands of residents who'll be using it in the future."

"We know that Melton's population is projected to increase to more than 400,000 residents by 2050 - which is why we're delivering projects like these that will provide safer and more efficient journeys for years to come."

As stated by Member for Sydenham Natalie Hutchins

"The completion of works along Melton Highway is a win for all road users - ensuring better traffic flow

and safer, smoother travel."
