A major renewal of Crescent Head's Rankine Street will get underway later this month, including construction of new footpaths, ramps, seating and landscaping.

Kempsey Shire Council is undertaking a significant upgrade of the shopping precinct on Rankine Street, thanks to federal funding of approximately $800,000 under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and a Council contribution of $76,000.

The first section of the Rankine Street upgrade will start with improvements to the streetscape infrastructure between Scott and East Street including improving footpaths, accessibility ramps and café seating.

The Rankine Street renewal project is part of the broader Crescent Head Public Domain Project adopted by Council in October 2020 and is Stage 1 of the Crescent Head Village Renewal Plan.

Council's Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the renewal will improve pedestrian safety and accessibility in the town centre while preserving its unique character for residents and visitors alike.

"The Rankine Street upgrade will replace worn pavements and install new ramps and access points, improving safety and convenience in the village centre," Mr Reeves said.

"New seating and landscape planting will provide greater comfort and shade, as well as enhancing the street's appearance."

Council is engaging with local businesses to manage the impact of the works on pedestrian access, car parking and traffic flow, including delivery vehicle access. Council officers will continue to work closely with businesses to minimise disruptions and delays for the duration of the project.
