Crime Up, Police Down Under Premier Jacinta Allan

Victorians are less safe under Labor as new data confirms the number of Victoria Police officers has fallen since Jacinta Allan became Premier.

Victoria Police Employees By Location data confirms a reduction of 187.38 full-time equivalent (FTE) police officers between September 2023, the month Jacinta Allan became Premier, and September 2025.

Over this same period, independent Crime Statistics Agency data has confirmed the annual number of offences recorded has risen from 510,140 to 640,860, an increase of more than 25 per cent, of which 294,639 - nearly half - remain unsolved.

The reduction in the number of Victoria Police officers follows an alleged aggravated carjacking and stabbing victim being unable to enter the Reservoir Police Station due to its closure last week - one of the 43 police stations to have their hours reduced or doors closed under the Allan Labor Government.

In May 2025, the Allan Labor Government reduced funding by almost $50 million to Victoria Police as net debt continues to grow by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "Under Premier Jacinta Allan, Victoria has more crime and fewer police.

"With offending at an all-time high under Labor, Victoria needs more cops on the beat, not fewer, to tackle crime and keep communities safe.

"Restoring community safety is a top priority for my team. Only a Liberal and Nationals Government I lead will end Labor's crime crisis by investing in crime prevention and ensuring consequences match community expectations."

Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections, Brad Battin, said: "With 2,000 vacancies and almost 200 fewer police, it should be no surprise Victoria's crime crisis continues to worsen under Premier Jacinta Allan.

"Frontline Victoria Police officers do outstanding work with the resources they have but continue to be hamstrung by a government that has all the wrong priorities.

"Labor cannot manage money, cannot keep communities safe and Victorians are paying the price."
