Since becoming Premier, Jacinta Allan has overseen a reduction in police officer numbers, cutting of crime prevention funding and Victoria Police's budget, reducing the operating hours of 43 police stations and left bail laws weaker than they were in early 2023.
New data released today by the independent Crime Statistics Agency has confirmed over the 12 months to September 2025:
- A total of 640,860 criminal offences were recorded - the highest number on record since the establishment of the Crime Statistics Agency.
- Residential aggravated burglaries have increased by 14 per cent and have now more than doubled since 2019.
- Family violence serious assaults have increased by 27 per cent, with one offence committed every 51.5 minutes.
- Almost 100,000 offences occurred in retail settings - a rate of one offence every 5.4 minutes.
- Motor vehicle theft has increased 29 per cent, with a vehicle stolen in Victoria every 16 minutes.
- The number of victims has risen to 279,269, an increase of 28,546.
Over the two years since Jacinta Allan became Premier, criminal offending in Victoria has surged, with around 130,000 more offences recorded year-on-year and the offending rate has increased by more than 20 per cent.
Today's crime statistics data follows recent ABS figures which confirmed Victoria recorded the most victims in the nation for unlawful entry with intent (45,895), robbery (3,436) and motor vehicle theft (22,504) across 2024.
In May 2025, the Allan Labor Government reduced funding by almost $50 million to Victoria Police as net debt continues to grow by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.
Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "Premier Allan's legacy on crime is clear: more offences, more victims, fewer police and a community living in fear.
"Labor's weak laws, funding cuts and police shortages have triggered a crime crisis that is causing immense damage across the state and impacting too many Victorians every day.
"Ending Labor's crime crisis is a key priority for my team. A Liberal and Nationals Government I lead will ensure bail and sentencing laws meet community expectations and reduce crime through greater prevention and rehabilitation initiatives."
Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections, Brad Battin, said: "Under Labor, another Victorian becomes a victim of crime every 49 seconds. This rate of offending is intolerable and unacceptable.
"The Allan Labor Government's neglect of Victoria Police is undermining their ability to prevent offending, solve crimes and keep the community safe.
"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage crime and Victorians are paying the price."
