Critical incident investigation underway after man's death at Broken Hill

A police critical incident investigation has commenced following the death of a man at a home in Broken Hill earlier today.

Officers from Barrier Police District were called to Lane Lane, about 3.50am (Australian Central Standard Time) today (Thursday 11 April 2019), following a concern for welfare.

Upon arrival the officers attempted to speak with a 44-year-old man who was believed to have been armed with a firearm.

Shortly after 4am (ACST), the officers heard a gunshot and located the 44-year-old man.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended but the man could not be revived.

A Critical Incident Investigation Team from Central North Police District, assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to independent review.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
