Critical incident investigation underway into crash at Gunnedah

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died following a crash in Gunnedah this morning.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were patrolling Wandobah Road, Gunnedah, about 8.50am today (Monday 19 September 2022), when they directed the driver of a silver Mitsubishi Lancer to stop.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The car continued along Wandobah Road when it left the road and rolled.

Police arrived and rendered first aid to the driver until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived; however, the 48-year-old man died.

A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from New England Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to an independent review.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
