Cyclist dies after crash at Maclean

An investigation is underway following a fatal crash on the state's north coast yesterday.

Just before 6pm (Tuesday 20 June 2023), emergency services were called to River Street, Maclean, following reports of a crash involving a bus and a cyclist.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and found a cyclist deceased at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 55.

The 42-year-old driver and sole passenger on the bus were not injured.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist police from the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit.

The bus driver was taken to Maclean Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then arrested and taken to Maclean Police Station, before being released pending further inquiry.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage is asked to contact police or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
