Cyclist dies after Oakleigh collision

Nunawading Highway Patrol are appealing for information following a fatal collision between a car and cyclist in Oakleigh last night.

Emergency services were called to the collision at the intersection of Drummond and Logie streets just before 7pm.

Police have been told the car was travelling south on Drummond Street when the cyclist, on a BMX bike, rode out of Logie Street at what appeared a fast rate of speed.

The car wasn't able to stop and struck the cyclist who wasn't wearing a helmet.

The cyclist, who is yet to be formally identified, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene to render assistance and has spoken to police.

Officers are working to establish the identity of the rider who is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 20s to 30s with a slim build.

He was wearing dark clothing a black cap and distinctive white puma thin-soled slip-on shoes.
