Cyclist hit by car in South Melbourne

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a cyclist was struck by a car in South Melbourne last night.

Investigators have been told that a 64-year-old South Melbourne man was riding his bike along Dorcas street about 10.15pm.

As he approached Clarendon Street he was faced with a red light and pulled up to the left of stopped traffic.

Officers believe that as the lights turned green the rider fell to the right and was struck by a Toyota Kluger as it drove off.

The driver of the Kluger, a 46-year-old South Melbourne woman, stopped and has been assisting police with their enquires.

The man was transported to hospital and treated for serious injuries.
