Dangerous driving charge at Caboolture

Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove a stolen car dangerously in road works at Caboolture overnight.

It will be alleged at 9.35pm a Mazda 3 was headed south on the Bruce Highway through road works. Workers at the scene contacted police in relation to the manner of driving of the vehicle. Only one lane of the Highway was operational due to the roadworks. A marked police vehicle was stopped in a line of traffic and the Mazda was forced to stop further down the line.

An officer from the stopped police car approached the Mazda, directing the driver to pull over to the side. The Mazda accelerated toward the officer who jumped out of the way before the Mazda drove through the roadworks and drive off southbound at speed.

The Mazda drove along the Buchannan Road exit at Morayfield before the driver has lost control and crashed into a traffic sign.

The driver fled the vehicle and was located hiding in bushland a short time later by a police dog squad unit.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Kalanda Court in Dicky Beach on June 23.

It will be further alleged police searched the vehicle after the crash and located a quantity of drugs.

The 32-year-old Morayfield man was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment then charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and disqualified driving, one count each of drug driving, possession of dangerous drug (methylamphetamine) possession of drug utensil (glass pipe), and using cancelled registration plates. He has also been charged with drive unregistered and uninsured vehicle from an earlier matter.

He will appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
