Dangerous Driving Charge, North Ward

Police have charged a man with dangerous driving offences following a traffic crash in North Ward (Townsville) this morning, 31 August.

At approximately 6.34am police attended the intersection between Eyre Street and Gregory Street in North Ward following reports a pedestrian has been struck by an Isuzu dual cab utility.

It will be alleged the Isuzu was travelling at high speed when the driver mounted the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, before colliding with a lamp post.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the ute, a 30-year-old North Ward man, did not sustain any physical injuries and was taken into custody at the scene.

He has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving of motor vehicle without a driver license.

He will appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on 1 September.
