Dangerous driving charges at Gold Coast

Two men have been charged after a stolen car was allegedly driven at high speed from Worongory to Pacific Pines yesterday afternoon.

It will be alleged police attended an address on Saraji Street, Worongoray just before 2pm and observed a stolen silver Kia with false registration plates in the driveway.

As officers approached the residence the vehicle reversed and sped away.

POLAIR tracked the stolen car as it travelled at high speed before eventually stopping at Pacific Pines where the alleged driver exited and attempted to flee.

A passenger of the car then assumed control of the vehicle and drove away while police took the former driver into custody, a 24-year-old Southport man.

POLAIR continued to monitor the stolen Kia as it travelled onto Maudsland Road and collided with another car before crashing down an embankment.

The alleged driver fled into bushland however was arrested soon after. He was transported to hospital for treatment to extensive cuts after running through Lantana bushes.

A 24-year-old Southport man has been charged with 10 offences including three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of stealing, and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, burglary, driving unlicensed and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 29-year-old Worongary man has been charged with nine offences including three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of stealing and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possessing substances.

Both are due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today (March 5).
