Dangerous driving incident in Brisbane, QLD

A man is assisting police following an alleged evade police incident at Taragindi and a subsequent crash at Belmont yesterday, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at 2.45pm police observed a stolen white Mercedes-Benz travelling on Toohey Road at Tarragindi when police activated lights and sirens the driver accelerated away at speed.

PolAir tracked the vehicle before it travelled through the Clem 7 and Airportlink tunnels then towards the airport before travelling south on the Gateway Motorway.

At 3.05pm police observed the white Mercedes-Benz travelling southbound on the Gateway Motorway at Hemmant.

Police activated lights and sirens before the vehicle continued at high speed taking the Old Cleveland Road exit where it collided with the rear of two cars stopped at a red light.

The stolen vehicle then continued inbound on Old Cleveland Road before turning left into Creek Road travelling on various suburban streets sometimes on the wrong side of the road before returning onto Creek Road and then onto Logan Road at Mt Gravatt.

It turned into Wishart Road and finally Poulton Street at Upper Mt Gravatt, stopping in a driveway of a dead end street.

The driver ran from the vehicle but was caught by a police dog in the Mount Gravatt Show Grounds.

A 22-year-old Mount Gravatt East man remains in police custody after being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for injuries to his left forearm.

It will be alleged the Mercedes-Benz had been stolen from a house Merion Place at Carindale just after 2am on Saturday, February 24.

Investigations are continuing.
