Dark Mofo creates inclusive experiences

Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts

Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer, has welcomed an initiative to make two of Dark Mofo's most popular activities accessible for all.

Minister Archer today met with members of Young Leaders of Tasmania who are facilitating private, sensory-friendly sessions for people living with disability and their families this weekend at Dark Park and the Winter Feast.

"It's wonderful that all members of our community have the opportunity to participate in our accessible and inclusive iconic winter festival," Minister Archer said.

"This partnership with the Young Leaders of Tasmania is a fantastic example of how event organisers can work with our community to create inclusive experiences for all abilities.

"Congratulations to the young people involved in this outstanding community organisation for their dedication to providing opportunities and support for Tasmanians living with disability to participate in our community events.

"It's another shining example of how Dark Mofo is enticing Tasmanians from all walks of life to get outdoors in our colder winter period and come together, to the benefit of everyone in the community.

"It's why our Government has supported Dark Mofo since its inception in 2013, with more than $15 million invested into the delivery of the festival - recognising its importance to our State's cultural life, identity, and economy."

The Rockliff Liberal Government has committed further support for Dark Mofo through the Events Tasmania Major Event Partnerships Program, supporting it through to the 2024 festival.

"Dark Mofo is a celebration of art in all its forms and this year's program features a superb selection of local, national and international artists across a range of artforms and genres," Minister Archer said.

"It's great to see events and exhibitions, including free events, that bring people within our community, and visitors, together with a focus on arts, creativity and culture.

"I encourage people to attend what's on offer at Dark Mofo, such as the free Twist exhibition at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, which presents a unique exhibition with contemporary visual and performance art."
