NATO Welcomes US Under Secretary Of War Policy

NATO

On Thursday (27 August 2026), NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed U.S. Under Secretary of War for Policy, Elbridge A. Colby, to NATO Headquarters. Mr Colby met with the North Atlantic Council (NAC) to discuss how NATO is strengthening its deterrence and defence and brief Allies on the ongoing U.S. review of its force posture in Europe.

The Secretary General noted that Mr Colby had coined the term "NATO 3.0" earlier this year, advocating for a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO, where America and its Allies more fairly share the responsibility for our shared security. The progress shown at the recent NATO Summit in Ankara, including the $139 billion increase in defence spending from European Allies and Canada in 2025, underline the substantial advances made the path to a stronger, fairer Alliance.

NATO Allies welcomed the engagement on the U.S. force posture review and underscored the value of continued cooperation.
