Darwin Street Art Festival is back and in time for Dry!

NT Government

The Darwin Street Art Festival will run from 18 May - 8 June in 2024 as it returns for its eighth instalment.

Usually operating in September and October, the date change will see artists paint murals in a cooler climate.

Revising the festival timing to May also provides an opportunity to collaborate with other street art festivals across the country that are running during this period.

Year upon year, the Darwin Street Art Festival has expanded from the CBD and out into the regions, whilst upskilling local artists and building their creative capacity. The event also benefits from visiting interstate and international artists.

Artist expressions of interest open on Monday 15 January, and will close Friday 2 February.

The Darwin Street Art Festival is funded by the Northern Territory Government through Activate Darwin.

The Festival saw 23 murals painted in 2023, and overall, there has been 108 painted in the past eight years.

Businesses and landlords who are interested in having their wall painted are encouraged to express their interest all year round through the DSAF website https://www.darwinstreetartfestival.com.au/ [http://about:blank]

Quotes attributed to Chief Minister Eva Lawler:

"Ensuring our community centres across the Territory are colourful, dynamic and fresh is important.

"This is why we have Activate Darwin, Activate Alice and Activate Katherine, which are focused on bringing new and exciting ideas to the regions and cities.

"The Darwin Street Art festival has helped transform the streets of Darwin through vibrant and colourful street art for the past eight years, while supporting and upskilling our talented local artists"

"I encourage interested building and business owners to register to have their walls painted, with the Darwin Street Art Festival also generating more foot traffic into our CBD, which means residents and visitors are supporting our local businesses and keeping our economy moving."
