Which language do you pass on to your child? Which songs did people from seventeenth-century Leiden sing? How do you play Trump's rhetorical game? During the Day of Languages and Cultures on Saturday, 26 September, you will discover why knowledge of languages and cultures is so valuable.
Embark on a journey through six world regions: Africa, North and South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Russia/Eurasia, and choose from more than 40 interactive workshops, lectures, games, and tours. From deciphering hieroglyphs and cuneiform and a workshop teaching you to read Korean in forty minutes, to an escape room on African voices, and lectures on Russian propaganda, endangered languages, and the influence of music, literature, and history on our society.

Anyone with a curious mind is welcome: from families and schoolchildren to university students, expats and anyone else who's interested. Admission is €8.50, including drinks. Students pay €5 and entry is free for young people aged 18 and under.
Special Collections
The special collections of the university library are open to the public during the Day of Languages and Cultures. A fantastic opportunity to view centuries-old maps, manuscripts, and clay tablets up close.
