  • Cook Government and Kimberley Aboriginal Regional Governance Group formally recognise the Kimberley Aboriginal Youth Wellbeing Steering Committee Partnership Agreement
  • Partnership agreement supports a shared way of working for Kimberley Aboriginal community organisations and State Government agencies
  • Agreement strengthens coordinated action to deliver better outcomes for Kimberley Aboriginal youth wellbeing

The Cook Government has formalised a partnership agreement with the Kimberley Aboriginal Regional Governance Group at a ceremonial event in Broome today.

The Kimberley Aboriginal Youth Wellbeing Steering Committee Partnership Agreement was developed to fundamentally change the way the State Government and Aboriginal leaders in the Kimberley work together.

The agreement fosters a collaborative approach and shared decision-making between Kimberley Aboriginal community organisations and State Government agencies, aiming to strengthen the delivery of outcomes for young Aboriginal people in the region.

It also aims to strengthen work undertaken by State Government agencies in response to the State Coroner's Message Stick report of the Inquiry into Aboriginal youth suicide in remote areas.

As stated by Mental Health and Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"This partnership agreement formalises our existing commitment to improving the wellbeing of young Aboriginal people in the Kimberley.

"I feel confident this partnership agreement will build on existing activity to foster real and long-lasting change for Aboriginal people, families and communities."

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:

"Our government has been working hard to formalise this partnership, and I thank the community for its advocacy and support as we work together to do what's best for our youth.

"Every region has unique needs, and we know the best way to achieve positive, lasting outcomes is to work together."
