Council has received funding from the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to make safety upgrades to the intersection of Deans Creek Road and Pound Road.
Council identified the Deans Creek and Pound Road intersection as a high-risk rural intersection with vehicles failing to give way at the site.
General Manager Infrastructure and Environment Doug McNeill said Council welcomed the State Government funding.
"Council is pleased to receive this funding for much-needed safety improvements to the Deans Creek and Pound Road intersection," Mr McNeill said.
"To complete safety upgrades, Council will retain the existing slip-lane configuration and construct raised platforms on Pound Road and Back Larpent Road, either side of the intersection.
"These measures will aim to reduce vehicle speed and improve visibility on the approach to the intersection."
Mr McNeill said projected residential growth contributed to the need for the safety measures.
"Community members have raised concerns regarding the safety of this intersection, particularly as traffic volume has increased in the area, with a crash recorded as recently as 2024.
"Future growth zones south of Colac are likely to increase traffic volumes and risk through this intersection in the near future," Mr McNeill said.
The Deans Creek Road and Pound Road intersection upgrade project is funded by the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, which is providing $214 million to make local roads safer across Victoria.
