Death in Custody

Queensland Corrective Services has been informed of the death of a prisoner at Princess Alexandra Hospital this morning.

The 39-year-old man was declared deceased just before 9am this morning, following what appeared to be a self-harm incident at Wolston Correctional Centre on Friday afternoon.

The man was found unresponsive in a single occupancy cell, and custodial correctional staff immediately began first aid including CPR until QAS arrived.

He was taken to PAH hospital in a serious condition, and his condition deteriorated overnight.

CSIU is investigating the incident, and Queensland Corrective Services will assist in the preparation of a report to the coroner.

His next of kin has been informed, and our condolences go to his family and friends.
