Police confirm death in custody in Richlands

Police can confirm the death of man in who had been in custody at Richlands Watchhouse.

The 65-year-old Ellen Grove man was arrested on the evening of January 15 for two breach of Domestic Violence Order offences.

He was remanded in custody after appearing in court on January 18 and was awaiting transport to another facility when he suffered a medical episode on Wednesday.

Police rendered first aid and the man was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he underwent surgery, however he sadly passed away today (January 22).

The Ethical Standards Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death on behalf of the Coroner. The Crime and Corruption Commission have also been notified.
