Death of an inmate at Collins Bay Institution

News release

November 26, 2018 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On November 24, 2018, Shane Elliott Gammie, an inmate at Collins Bay Institution died while in our custody.

At the time of his death, Mr. Gammie, 35 years old, had been serving a sentence of five years, nine months and 15 days since June 9, 2015 for Break, Enter and Commit, Use of Firearm while Committing, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Possession of Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order and Possession of Schedule I/II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The inmate's next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
