December Updates To New Website

BOM

Delivering improvements

The Bureau today released the latest round of updates to its new website, www.bom.gov.au. This is part of an ongoing program of regular updates to ensure the website meets community and business needs.

Today's updates follow recent changes to the weather map's default rain view and fire weather district forecast information.

Since launch, the new website has attracted nearly 75 million visits, with 67% of traffic from mobile devices, and over 400,000 pieces of feedback.

This feedback, along with feedback received during the public beta phase (June 2024 to October 2025), has informed a number of improvements and fixes in this release.

Rain radar and weather map

In response to feedback, we have:

  • added a shortcut at the top of the homepage to the rain radar and weather maps page
  • changed the style of the map location pin, to make it easier to see
  • made it easier to customise the map, including on touchscreen devices.

Supporting safety

This includes refinements to warnings and other public safety information:

  • Warning icons display as yellow for active warnings, grey for cancelled. We've also made format changes to warning details, to help with clarity, accessibility and consistency.
  • Fire danger ratings tables on state and territory pages now show available forecasts for today plus 3 days, or tomorrow plus 3 days. This reflects the most up-to-date forecast.
