Declared Public Places For Australia Day Events

South Australia Police have five additional Declared Public Places to ensure the safety of the community attending Australia Day events.

Police will attend the Mourning in the Morning event as well as the Survival Day March along King William Street, Australia Day Rally at Peace Park, March for Australia in Glenelg and Lights on the River at night.

Assistant Commissioner John DeCandia said the Public Event Declaration will allow police to conduct metal detector searches and order people to leave the area if required.

"South Australia Police (SAPOL) have worked closely with organisers to ensure risk assessments have been conducted to ensure their rights to lawful and peaceful protest are facilitated wherever possible," Assistant Commissioner DeCandia said.

"While SAPOL support the right for peaceful events, police have zero tolerance for anti-social, racist or violent behaviour, these powers will help us achieve that."

The forecast temperature for Monday is 43 degrees and SAPOL remind members of the community to take appropriate precautions to manage their health in the hot weather.

Police will be managing our patrols to ensure they are hydrated and have access to breaks when needed.
