Defense Microelectronics Activity Designated as Center for Industrial Technical Excellence

U.S. Department of Defense

In December 2021, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III issued a memorandum designating the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) a Center for Industrial Technical Excellence (CITE). Our organic depot and arsenal CITEs provide critical core competencies to sustain systems and produce capabilities for the nation.

Microelectronics is a critical mission area enabling many of our key weapons systems. This CITE designation recognizes the important role that the DMEA plays in upgrading and sustaining critical warfighting capabilities. DMEA is our DoD leader with core competency in microelectronics.

Designating DMEA as a CITE allows greater utilization of its unique capability to support small runs of DoD-critical microelectronics and semiconductors both inside and outside DoD. The CITE designation also allows the use of Public Private Partnerships (PPP). PPP provide excellent opportunities to promote partnering agreements between depots/arsenals and private industry.
