Delivering A Better Library For Dimboola

  • Minister for Local Government

Work is underway to redevelop the Dimboola Library thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minster for Local Government Adem Somyurek today turned the first sod on the $1.2 million redevelopment, which will see the facility upgraded to better serve the community's needs.

The Labor Government is investing $600,000 towards the project through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund, with Hindmarsh Shire Council to deliver the project and match the Government's contribution.

The redevelopment will transform the current library into a multi-purpose facility with extra space for collections, a dedicated children's area and an outdoor space for community events to be staged.

The facility will become a creative, learning, community and business hub and once completed will support an increasing number of visitors with a diverse range of demographics and abilities.

The Labor Government has invested more than $18 million dollars into 58 infrastructure projects through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.

Libraries provide free public access to information and technology, literacy support, and training and skills development that engage communities and enrich community life.

As noted by Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek

"We are proud to help to modernise the Dimboola Library."

"In partnership with Hindmarsh Shire Council, we're delivering a facility that meets the needs of their community."

As stated by Member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford

"It's fantastic to see this upgrade underway, bringing us another step closer to delivering the great local library Dimboola deserves."
