Delivering for Tasmanians in need

In the first year of our second term, the re-elected Hodgman Majority Liberal Government is delivering on our Plan to help Tasmanians in need.

The Hodgman Majority Liberal Government has been working hard to address the issues of homelessness and housing shortage in Tasmania and investing in Tasmanians in need.

Straight after the 2018 election, we convened a Housing Summit and, among other actions, developed new legislation to ‘fast-track’ zoning changes, enabling surplus government land to be re-zoned to accelerate the supply of affordable housing.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed nearly $200 million to implement Stages One and Two of our Affordable Housing Action Plans over eight years, which is the largest ever State investment into affordable housing in Tasmania’s history.

We have also extended funding for emergency support to those Tasmanians who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness, bringing our total investment to $1.2 million this year.

We are investing an additional $24 million to support the redesign of the Child Safety System, employing more child safety officers and other frontline staff, and assisting children with very complex needs in out-of-home care.

This is on top of the $51.2 million of the redesign of child and safety services that we committed in our first term and the $16 million election commitments that were delivered in the 2018-19 Budget.

The Hodgman Majority Liberal Government has listened to what is important to Tasmanians, we took a Plan to the March election, and since being re-elected we have delivered on that Plan.

This is in sharp contrast to the Labor-Green Opposition who continue to shamelessly politicise these issues for their own political purposes.
