Delivering stronger TasTAFE for future 28 October

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth

Today we are one step closer to delivering a more flexible and future-focused TasTAFE with the tabling of the TasTAFE (Skills and Training Business) Bill 2021.

The important Bill details the proposed business model for TasTAFE, delivering on the recommendations made by the Premier's Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council earlier this year.

Our TasTAFE transition plan will deliver:

*quality training for students to gain skills in job growth sectors;

*delivery of training at times that work for students, businesses, and employers; and

*more flexible and contemporary employment arrangements for TasTAFE staff.

Our plan will see training delivered in more contemporary ways that better meets the needs of learners and industry, with $98.6 million of investment to deliver 100 new teachers, as well as new buildings, better equipment, and expanding rural and regional access to training.

We are excited about the future of TasTAFE under our plan for the transition, and we thank TasTAFE staff, industry stakeholders and students for providing their input into our consultation processes.

It is intended that the new arrangements will come into effect on 1 July 2022.

Our plan has the strong support of industry, and we are committed to securing opportunities for Tasmania's learners, as well as our workforce, local businesses, and our economy for years to come.
