Bayside Council, in partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia), will unveil a striking new temporary public artwork at the Ramsgate Beach car park, transforming the foreshore into a vibrant canvas of culture, connection and community.
Delivered through this dynamic collaboration, the project brings world-class contemporary art directly to the Bayside community, inviting residents and visitors to experience creativity on their doorstep along the culturally and historically significant shores of Botany Bay.
Created by acclaimed First Nation's artist Dennis Golding, the large-scale outdoor mural installation has been shaped through a series of hands-on workshops with Bayside local youth. Their voices and perspectives are embedded in the work, which powerfully reflects connections to land, waterways and identity.
While temporary in form, the artwork sets a bold benchmark for Aboriginal placemaking in Bayside, celebrating First Nations culture and storytelling at a site of profound historical significance, where Aboriginal people first encountered European settlers.
It is a meaningful step forward in recognising shared histories and fostering a future where communities can move forward together, united in respect and understanding. Through recognising the history and the many stories around the foreshore Council is forging a way forward where our communities can "walk hand-in-hand".
The unveiling of this major new community artwork will take place at Ramsgate Beach car park on Saturday 11 April at 2:00pm. All are welcome.
Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall said:
"As Mayor of Bayside it has been a great privilege to foster the growth in our arts and culture program over the last few years," Mayor Edward McDougall said.
"This innovative collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art has allowed us to engage with local youth in a creative way to deliver a meaningful public art project for the community. I would like to thank all Bayside young people who actively contributed to the development of this monumental First Nations public artwork that is terrific focal point for Bayside's expanding arts and culture landscape."
Suzanne Cotter, Director, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia said:
"MCA Australia is committed to supporting artists in shaping meaningful exchanges with communities across Sydney. C3West's On the Foreshore brings this commitment to life by connecting young people in Bayside with First Nations knowledge, creativity and generosity of artist Dennis Golding. We are proud to be working with Bayside Council to realise a project that gives concrete expression to the role of art in fostering connection, learning and cultural strength."
