Deputy Director Of Public Prosecutions Commences Today

Following his appointment by the Governor-General in August, Mr Nicholas Broadbent SC has commenced his five-year term as the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth).

Mr Broadbent was most recently a Deputy Senior Public Defender at the NSW Public Defenders Chambers, having served as a Public Defender from 2020 to 2025. Mr Broadbent was appointed Senior Counsel in 2024 and practised as a barrister at Maurice Byers Chambers from 2009 to 2019. Mr Broadbent holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, and a Master of Laws from Harvard University. He has also held leadership roles within the legal profession, including as a Councillor and former Honorary Secretary of the Council of the NSW Bar Association.
