Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged four people following an investigation into three armed robberies across Newcastle last month.
About 4am on Saturday 8 August 2026, police were called to a licensed premises on Glebe Road, Adamstown, following reports of an armed robbery.
Police were told two unknown men allegedly entered the premises and assaulted a 25-year-old woman before taking cash and leaving. She did not require further medical treatment.
Local detectives commenced inquiries and about 2.40pm the same day executed a search warrant at a home on Coronation Street, Waratah, where clothing and a vehicle were seized for forensic examination.
About 6am on Monday 10 August 2026, police were called to a licensed premises at Bar Beach following reports of a break and enter.
Police were told that about 1.50am, three unknown men had allegedly forced entry to the premises and damaged a safe and poker machines in an attempt to steal cash.
They left the scene with a small amount of money.
About 6.40am the same morning, police were called to a bowling club in Cardiff following reports of an armed robbery.
At the scene, police were told three men allegedly entered the club and threatened two staff members with weapons.
The group – described as wearing all black and balaclavas – allegedly stole a white Subaru Forester belonging to a staff member and left with cash.
Local police commenced inquiries into all three incidents before the investigation was referred to State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Ronwayy.
Following extensive inquiries, from about 6am yesterday (Thursday 3 September 2026) strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad, Northern Region Operations Support Group and Central Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group ODIN – executed search warrants in Wallsend, Fletcher, Elermore Vale and Petersham.
A 38-year-old man was arrested in Fletcher and taken to Waratah Police Station, where he was charged with four counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
In Wallsend, a 35-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station. The man was charged with four counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon. The woman was charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime greater than $5000.
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Hamilton. He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with four counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon.
All three men were refused bail to appear at Bail Division Local Court 2 today (Friday 4 September 2026).
The woman was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 17 September 2026.
