Detectives investigate CBD taxi assault

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted in the CBD last month, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told the driver, a 41-year-old Tarneit man, was sitting in his taxi taking a dinner break about 2am on 2 June when three men attempted to get into the vehicle near the corner of Lonsdale Street and Queen Street.

When the driver refused the fare the three unknown men kicked the doors of the taxi before assaulting the driver.

The driver attempted to photograph the men on his phone and was further assaulted by the group.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including facial injuries and a fractured arm.

Detectives have released images of four men and a woman who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises the group or with other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
