Detectives Probe Fatal Somerton Crash

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash which occurred in Somerton last December.

Investigators have been told an orange garbage truck was travelling north on Hume Highway about 7.45am on 9 December.

The truck was involved in a minor collision with a red sedan near Austrak Drive and then crashed into a pole.

Police have been told the pole then fell onto a silver Honda, which was travelling the opposite way on the Hume Highway.

Emergency services worked on the female driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old woman from Kalkallo, but she died at the scene.

At the time the male truck driver was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the red sedan received minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or with footage.
