Detectives set to travel to Brazil to conduct inquiries into murder of Cecilia Haddad, NSW

Homicide Squad detectives will travel to Brazil today as part of the investigation into the murder of Cecilia Haddad, NSW Police say.

Kayakers alerted emergency services after locating a body of a woman in the Lane Cove River near Angelo Street, Woolwich, about 10.15am on Sunday 29 April 2018.

The woman was formally identified as 38-year-old Brazilian National, Cecilia Haddad.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad have been investigating the circumstances surrounding her death under Strike Force Bronwyn.

In June, strike force detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for a 40-year-old man, who was believed to have left Australia.

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro State’s Homicide Squad arrested a 40-year-old man in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday 7 July 2018.

Since that time, both jurisdictions have been working through a Mutual Legal Assistance Request (MLAR), which has now been finalised.

Strike Force Bronwyn detectives will travel to Brazil today (Sunday 4 November 2018), where they will conduct further inquiries and work with their Brazilian counterparts on the brief of evidence.
