Detox your home - recycle household chemicals for free

Residents are encouraged to register for the Detox your Home event, happening on Saturday 8 February from 8.00am – 4.00pm at 299 Anakie Road, Lovely Banks.

The free drop off is for household chemicals only. There's no restriction on the number or volume of household items that residents can bring, however:

The maximum acceptable weight or size of any single container is 20 kilograms or 20 litres

Decanting isn't permitted, so bring chemicals in disposable containers.

The full list of items accepted and not accepted can be viewed on SustainabilityVictoria's website.

Paint is not permitted at the event; however, paint can be dropped off for free anytime at the City's Drysdale or Geelong Resource Recovery Centre.

Registration is required to attend this event.

Chemicals dropped off are recovered and diverted from landfill.

The 'Detox your Home' service is delivered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong.

Quotes attributed to Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher:

Detox you Home is a fantastic collaboration with Sustainability Victoria that provides a valuable service to our community.

Many of us have old containers of chemicals that we no longer have use for sitting in our garage or in storage, so this is a great chance to do a clean-out.

Quotes attributed to Cr Ron Nelson, Chair Waste Management portfolio:

We are always looking for ways to help make it easier and more convenient for Greater Geelong residents to reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Detox your Home event is one of many ways our community can keep unwanted items out of landfill. Visit our website www.geelongaustralia.com.au/recycling to find out other ways you can recycle.
