The 2025-26 peak posting period for Australia Defence Force (ADF) personnel is closing out, with Defence Housing Australia (DHA) supporting thousands of members and their families with relocation between capital cities, major regional centres and remote areas of Australia.
Between the start of November 2025 and end of January 2026, DHA assisted more than 9,000 personnel with DHA housing selection, temporary and on-base accommodation bookings and rental occupancies across the peak posting period.
Across the three months, nearly 2,500 DHA properties (inclusive of houses, townhouses, apartments and units) were occupied by ADF members relocating to a new region of Australia. Almost 2,900 bookings were made for Living-In Accommodation on Defence bases through the online booking system managed by DHA.
To provide a welcoming experience for members and families posting to a new location, DHA facilitated more than 1,600 in-person DHA property welcome visits between the three-month period.
More than 53,800 calls were answered by DHA's contact centre team, and requests for housing support and information exceeded 69,000 tickets.
DHA works closely with ADF members, the Department of Defence and TOLL Transitions to facilitate a smooth relocation process in support of Defence's postural requirements across the country.
In planning for the peak posting period workload, DHA launched its internal Surge Workforce program. The temporary workforce provided staff with the opportunity to step out of their day-to-day role and experience how the agency directly supports members and spouses during what can be a stressful time, while, in turn, receiving additional support to manage the workload.
DHA continues to support members and families with requests as they settle into their new location.
