The Sydney Business Chamber says the Government's long-awaited Dine and Discover voucher program has the chance to prove its value in revitalising the city's economy with the first trial starting at The Rocks announced today.
"The Rocks has been quiet since Covid kicked in and prevented the arrival of its lifeblood, international tourists, so now it's time for Sydneysiders to take advantage of their $100 in vouchers and rediscover the many hospitality and cultural attractions in this historic district," said Katherine O'Regan, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.
"In recent years The Rocks has become more known as a tourist precinct rather than a place for locals, but now with a hand up from the government to spend on food and cultural attractions, this is a great opportunity to rediscover the wonderful history, architecture and laneways that this iconic precinct offers - during the day and after dark.'
"Over thirty businesses have registered so far for the program and with George Street made pedestrian friendly and the installation of extra al-fresco dining spaces, the unique shops, cafes and pubs are a great place to spend a summers day and help local businesses recover from a terrible twelve months."
"There are also cultural attractions to spend your vouchers on including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Rocks Walking and Rocks Haunted Ghost Tours, as well as two five-star hotels."
"The voucher program will be rolled out next across the CBD and Northern Beaches where businesses are also in need of a boost in foot traffic and customers and I am sure the people of Sydney will really get behind this well targeted program."
"While the trials will only include vouchers for local residents initially, when the full program rolls out next month it is hoped they will encourage people from around the state to come to Sydney for a holiday to assist the struggling tourism sector in our city which has seen a 20% drop off in visitors."
