Dirty and proud campaign for motorists

Dirty cars and artistic drawings are coming together in a water-saving alliance, as Council encourages residents in the Armidale region to join the #ProudtobedirtyARC movement.

Since the implementation of water restrictions for town water customers in the Armidale region, there has been a spike in the use of car wash facilities.

"The #ProudtobedirtyARC campaign, our latest water conservation initiative, is aimed at inspiring people to embrace the dirtiness and avoid washing cars, to help save remaining town water supplies," Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.

"We're really asking people to question whether they really need to wash their cars at a time when we're facing such serious water shortages."

Cr Murray said the drought is taking a significant toll on the community.

"#ProudtobedirtyARC is a fantastic movement that generates social awareness, while having some fun to provide some respite from the harsh times," he said.

"The movement is an opportunity for everyone to get involved, save water, get creative and inspire some smiles."

Residents can get their creative juices flowing and draw artworks on their dirty car, branding the artwork with the hashtag #ProudtobedirtyARC.

"We're encouraging people to share their images on social media and use the hashtag," Cr Murray said.

"And for those people who need to keep their vehicles clean, or still wish to wash their cars, there is a range of waterless products are available from local businesses."

Cr Murrays stressed that #ProudtobedirtyARC artworks should not incorporate car windows.

"Safety is a priority to Council and we do not encourage drawing on the front and rear windscreens or side windows, which could affect visibility for motorists," he said.
