Disaster assistance is now available to residents and local councils in the Top End that were impacted by Tropical Cyclone Tiffany from 12 to 13 January 2022.

The Northern Territory Local Government Areas of East Arnhem, Katherine, Roper Gulf, Victoria Daly and West Daly will all receive assistance through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie said widespread rainfall led to some major flooding and road damage, while severe winds uprooted trees and wreaked havoc on a number of properties.

"The Australian and Northern Territory governments are working together to ensure those who have been impacted can access the support they need to get back on their feet as soon as possible," Minister McKenzie said.

"Assistance is available for Northern Territory Government agencies and the five impacted local councils for counter disaster operations and the restoration of essential public assets.

"This will ensure councils can cover the costs associated with clean-up activities and keeping communities safe," Minister McKenzie said.

Northern Territory Minister for Police Fire and Emergency Services, the Hon Nicole Manison MLA thanked the Commonwealth Government for its support.

"Cyclones and extreme weather events in the Top End are an unfortunate reality each wet season for Territorians. Affected residents and communities can now access a range of support payments to help recover from flood, road and property damage," Minister Manison said.

"Our Government will continue to engage with our Top End communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Tiffany, to help them rebuild and access this important recovery support," Minister Manison said.
