Inaugural plan establishes the strategic direction for the department to ensure responsible development of WA's resources, regulatory assurance and encourage industry innovation.
The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration has released its new Strategic Plan 2026-29: Future ready , setting the foundation for the department's strategic direction as a newly formed agency and marking an important step in shaping how we work together and deliver for Western Australia.
The plan is focused on ensuring the department provides trusted knowledge and stewardship of Western Australian resources to maximise value for current and future generations by positioning the State's resources sector as the global leader.
This means delivering a number of priorities:
- continually improving our approvals effectiveness to deliver timely, high-quality and transparent decision-making;
- accelerating digital transformation to improve service delivery and efficiency;
- advancing legislative reform to support a modern resources sector;
- building a responsive, future-focused operating model and workforce capability;
- driving nation-leading geoscience that enhances exploration and unlocks investment; and
- strengthening stakeholder relationships through clear and meaningful collaboration.
The presence of a dedicated resources department is intended to support sustainable development of WA's resources sector, exploration and deliver modern, transparent industry regulation; which will require partnerships between industry, government and the WA community to build long-term prosperity for all Western Australians.
