Do you know somebody worthy of City of Ballarat Community Award?

It is time to celebrate Ballarat's outstanding achievers by nominating them for the 2023 City of Ballarat Community Awards.

The Ballarat Community Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of community members who have gone above and beyond in the last year to improve the lives of everyone in the region.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Daniel Moloney, said he continued to be amazed at the contributions being made by both groups and individuals in the city.

"We know there are countless Ballarat people who do incredible, selfless things for the community," he said.

"Now is the time for people to step up to ensure these people receive the recognition they deserve.

"I'm sure everybody would know of somebody who would be a worthy candidate in one of the categories."

The annual awards are open in three categories:

Ballarat Citizen of the Year

  • The Citizen of the Year is someone who has made an outstanding, but often quiet, contribution to our community and region. It could be over a lifetime, or as a result of a specific event or of need. It could have covered a range of activities and interests.

Nominate someone who has inspired you, often the unsung heroes who give and give, expecting nothing in return but are making a real impact.

Ballarat Young Citizen of the Year

  • The Young Citizen of the Year must be under 25 years of age on 26 January 2023 and is someone already showing leadership, passion and commitment to giving to our community, even as they are still starting on their journey. They may be committed to bringing positive change, to bringing political and social change and moving towards becoming a local, state, or national leader of the future.

Support them on their journey by recognising and rewarding their efforts.

Community Activity of the Year

  • Our opportunities to get together and celebrate our communities, our regions, our multiculturalism, our uniqueness have been limited over the last year, but that does not mean we haven't been celebrating. We'd love to hear about all sorts of events that have been happening to celebrate the things that make Ballarat a great place to live - be they online, in person, or a hybrid of both.

The Community Activity of the Year Award is presented to the group or person who has staged the most outstanding community activity, either small or large, between 30 October 2021 and 29 October 2022.

The Ballarat Community Awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and are administered by Local Government Authorities throughout Australia, on behalf of each council.

Nominations for the awards are now open and will close on Friday 18 November 2022.

The Awards will be presented at an official presentation in January 2023.
