The Australian Medical Association (AMA) congratulates all doctors recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours list for their outstanding service and exceptional dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of Australians.
AMA President Dr Danielle McMullen said the doctors acknowledged this year have demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving patient care and strengthening the health system.
“These honours reflect the profound impact doctors have every day — in clinics, hospitals, research labs, and communities across the country,” Dr McMullen said.
“I am especially proud of our AMA members whose contributions have been formally recognised for advancing medicine and strengthening the health of their communities.
“The honours awarded today highlight the breadth of dedication across the profession. Each of these doctors has made a significant contribution to their communities and to the medical profession.”
AMA recipients include Emeritus Professor Bruce Armstrong, of Western Australia, who was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to medical research, to environmental and genetic cancer epidemiology, to screening service development, to academia, and to public health administration.
Other AMA members recognised include Professor Anne Buist, of Victoria, who was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to psychiatry and for advancing best practice in perinatal mental health research and treatment, and mental health education.
Associate Professor Anthony Lynham, of Queensland, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to trauma medicine as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, to the Parliament of Queensland and to the community.
