Hills residents and their furry friends will soon have another place to play after Council endorsed a six month trial of a timed dog off-leash area at Parraweena Avenue Reserve, Baulkham Hills, during their February 8 Ordinary Meeting of Council.

The trial will commence on Monday, March 7, and will give dog owners access to open space at the Reserve between 4pm and 6pm each day.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi commended the trial.

"As a dog owner myself, I know how important it is that owners shire wide have access to areas where they can train, socialise and exercise their pets," Mayor Gangemi said.

"Parraweena Avenue Reserve will be the first timed off-leash dog park in The Hills which is very exciting for the community.

"This is an innovative trial, in which use of a sportsfield will be reserved for off-leash dogs two hours a day. Should the trial receive positive feedback from the community, the use of timed areas could be a path forward for additional off-leash facilities for our community," Mayor Gangemi added.

After the six month trial is up, a report will be prepared for Council to determine the suitability of the site as a permanent shared use dog off-leash area.
