Dog shot with spear gun, man charged, NSW

A man will face court today on animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting a dog with a spear gun on the state’s Central Coast, NSW Police say.

Police will allege in court a 45-year-old man forced entry into a home on Cogra Road, Woy Woy, about midday on Monday 22 January 2018, and allegedly hit the dog over the head, causing several lacerations.

It will be further alleged after becoming stuck between a fence and garage wall, the man fired a spear gun, striking the animal in the head.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Local Area Command were alerted and attended the location.

The 45-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with commit act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal, fire spear gun manner likely to injure person/property and break and enter house etc steal value less than $60,000.

The Woy Woy man was refused bail and is due to appear at Gosford Local Court today (Tuesday 23 January 2018).

The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic where she underwent surgery.
