Working with Council is being made easier than ever with Townsville City Council re-introducing its Doing Business with Council face-to-face sessions.
Local business owners and staff can now organise to meet with Council's procurement team to gain insights and tips on applying to do business with Council.
This year local businesses can also opt to speak with Council's safety team to discuss specific work, health and safety requirements when working with Council and on Council projects.
Business Services and Financial Committee chairperson Margie Ryder said the sessions were back by popular demand.
"These sessions are a valuable opportunity for businesses who would like insights into Council's procurement process and safety obligations," Cr Ryder said.
"The Council procurement and safety teams are holding one-on-one meetings with local businesses to make sure they understand how to apply for Council contracts and to understand exactly what is required when working for Council from a safety perspective.
"These sessions have proved extremely popular in the past when it came to procurement, so we thought we'd extend them to a safety aspect this year.
"Council has an extremely strong safety culture, which is why we wanted to break down any barriers businesses think might be stopping them from doing business with Council."
Cr Ryder said people could choose to meet with either the procurement team, the safety team, or both.
"Meetings with the procurement team will run for 30 minutes and cover how the quoting and tendering process works, supplier requirements as well as any opportunities Council has for businesses," Cr Ryder said.
"Businesses can also meet with Council's safety team for 30 minutes to find out what their safety obligations would be when it comes to working with Council, alternatively, businesses can meet with both teams."
Cr Ryder said Council was committed to supporting local businesses whenever possible.
"These informative sessions are one way we can make sure Townsville businesses are up-to-date with the requirements of doing business with Council," she said.
"Procurement is an effective way for Council to support Townsville-based businesses. This financial year, Council has spent $282.4 million with local businesses, which is about 87 per cent of total procurement spend."
The procurement and safety sessions run every Tuesday and Thursday from 13 June – 20 July 2023.
