Domestic trigger for assault in Camperdown

A man remains in hospital after allegedly being struck with a crowbar at Camperdown on Friday morning, with another man due to face court later this month, NSW Police say.

Police from Leichhardt Local Area Command have been told the 53-year-old man was walking with his wife across the footbridge above Parramatta Road about 11pm on Friday 29 September 2016, when they began arguing.

An 18-year-old man intervened and accompanied the woman across the bridge, but was then allegedly threatened by the older man.

Police will allege that the older man raised his fist towards the younger man who struck him with a crowbar.

The man fell down and emergency services were called to the scene; he was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

The man’s condition is described as stable and he remains in hospital under observation.

The younger man had remained at the scene and was arrested by police; he was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with assault inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He was granted bail to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on Friday 21 October 2016.
